The awards program, which came to Portland for the first time after originating in San Francisco, has redefined its coffee criteria in recent years to include more diversity in terms of coffee’s origin and seasonality, while also reflecting regional diversity among its roaster winners in the United States. Alongside comestible items such as charcuterie, pickles, cheese and spirits, coffee remains one of the awards program’s most popular categories. This year’s program saw 237 winners in 18 categories, and the Good Food Foundation said “a majority” of the winners are small businesses, with less than $1 million in annual revenue.
