It’s not often you can purchase a Matisse without leaving the city for New York or another centre of art and culture. It’s one of more than 100 works expected to bring in $15 million to $23 million at a Heffel Fine Art Auction House sale in Toronto. Femme assise sur un balcon is a 1919 work that French artist Henri Matisse painted in Nice. Those paintings, along with the Matisse, are among the top 10 in dollar value being offered at the sale. Matisse isn’t the only famous French artist on offer.
