The video, monitored by GhanaWeb saw General Kotoka explaining to reporters his reasoning behind the coup plot that occurred on February 24, 1966. “We will be very pleased indeed to have him back in Ghana and we will give him the red carpet” he remarked. General Emmanuel Kotoka was the head of the Ghana Armed Forces and a key member of the National Liberation Council (NLC) which replaced Nkrumah’s government. Its been alleged that the masterminds of the February 24, 1966, coup d’état to replace the Nkrumah regime was orchestrated by the then Inspector General of Police, J.W.K Harley, Major General Emmanuel Kotoka and Major A.A Afrifa.
