By Skandha GunasekaraThe Sri Lanka Army began an initiative to plant herbal trees at all Army premises across the island. Army Spokesman Brigadier Chandana Wickramasinghe told The Morning that Army Chief Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva kicked off the project by planting a sandalwood plant at the new Army Headquarters. “The Army Commander planted a sudu handun plant as the first step for this project,” he said. He said that such herbal trees would also be planted along the road leading to the Army Headquarters. In addition, he said that similar herbal trees would be planted at all Army premises as part of its new green initiative.
