In the memorandum, the UTAA President has pointed out that in Goa State, 12 per cent of the population belongs to the Schedule Tribes (ST) and these communities got the tribal status in January 2003. These communities have lost the opportunity of reservation for the past 19 years after getting ST status within which four General Assembly elections were held, i.e in the Year 2007, 2012, 2017 and in March 2022. Presently, the reservation of 12 per cent for ST is applicable in the educational institutes, government jobs and promotions, Zilla Panchayat elections, Municipality and Panchayat elections for the upliftment of the backward classes. However, there is no reservation in the Assembly elections, the memorandum mentioned.
