The oak bed has been in the honeymoon suite of a hotel in Chester, but a recent examination has revealed it to be Henry VII and Elizabeth of York’s marriage bed. Amazingly, the hotel had discarded the precious bed in the parking lot, before it was rescued by antiques dealer, Ian Coulson. The four-poster bed is 9 feet tall, and measures 6 feet long, according to The Langley Collection, which now owns the bed. These carvings suggested to Mr Coulson that this may be a royal bridal bed. The analysis revealed that the wood was oak from central Europe, while the paint contained ultramarine, which was even more precious than gold at the time.
