A firefighter was taken to hospital as a precaution following an ammonia leak in West Auckland. Residents were urged to stay indoors as fire crews responded to the leak at Westpac Mussels Distributors on Corban Ave in Henderson about 6pm on Monday. Fire and Emergency NZ shift manager Carlos Dempsey said crews responded to smoke showing on the premises, but upon arrival, an ammonia leak was discovered. An ammonia leak is potentially very dangerous and fire crews from across the city had been called in to help, he said. Westpac Mussels Distributors' website says it is a New Zealand family owned and operated business.
