Helper visas fast-tracked to cut dormitory stay

The number of maids waiting for visas has dropped to 1,700 from 6,000 at the start of the month. On August 4, an Indonesian domestic helper who had stayed in a dormitory was found infected, which led to a number of other helpers also coming down with the virus. He said the department has expedited the approval of visas for helpers staying in Hong Kong by deploying "a lot of staff" to handle their papers. The number of helpers arriving in Hong Kong has also dropped, Law said. After they have completed a two-year contract, helpers will fly back to their hometown and return to Hong Kong upon signing a new contract.
