Clip-on helmet torches are making the job of Te Anau firefighters a little bit easier. Two weeks ago, the 30 firefighters and operational support personnel in the town were issued with a torch and bracket to clip onto the side of their helmet. The Te Anau Volunteer Fire Brigade applied to the Meridian Manapōuri Community Fund for a grant to buy the torches and clip-on brackets from a North Island company. News of the helmet torches has spread throughout the country, with six or seven other brigades messaging the Te Anau station for more information. Neil Sutherland, who is in the Te Anau brigade’s operational support team, likes the many benefits the torch offered.
