Rescue helicopters were sent to two crashes in rural Canterbury and Otago on Thursday evening. A rescue helicopter has been sent to the scene of a quad bike crash in rural Canterbury, about 35km west of Waimate. St John spokesman Gerard Campbell said one person was flown to Dunedin Hospital with serious injuries. Emergency crews were also sent to a crash on the Herbert-Hampden Rd (State Highway One) near the small North Otago town of Herbert at 6pm on Thursday. Campbell said one person was flown to Dunedin Hospital with moderate injuries and another six people with minor injuries were taken by ambulance to Oamaru Hospital.
