Five fire trucks and two helicopters are battling two scrub fires in the lower North Island. Scrub fires in Horowhenua and Rangitikei have two helicopters battling the two blazes. Fire and Emergency arrived at a 30 metre by 20 metre scrub fire on Palmer Road at Foxton Beach just before 3pm, Tuesday. About 30 kilometres north in Rangitikei another four rural appliances and two tankers were called to a 200 metre by 50 metre scrub fire on Duncan Road about 4.30pm. The helicopters were being shared between the two blazes, Fire and emergency central shift communication manager Murray Dunbar said.
