Photo: Gregor RIchardsonThose on board a helicopter that crashed at Wanaka Airport this morning believe the incident was due to a mechanical failure. Senior Sergeant Steve Watt, of Wanaka, said early indications from those on board were that mechanical failure was the cause. A reporter at the scene said the crash happened during helicopter pilot training. Another helicopter was in the air at the time and landed to check if the passengers were injured in the crash before taking to the air again.
