Heavy traffic is expected through Ōtaki during the holiday weekend. [File]Wellingtonians be warned, if you're heading away this anniversary weekend it will pay to choose your travel times carefully. Heading north, the heaviest traffic is expected to be on Friday between 9.30am and 7.30pm on State Highway 1 through between Peka Peka and Ōtaki, with further heavy traffic on Saturday and Sunday. Southbound traffic can expect heavy periods from Ōtaki on Sunday and Monday from noon till 6pm. SH2 over the Remutaka Hill is also expected to be busier throughout weekend, especially Friday evening heading north and Monday afternoon heading south.
