On Thursday, heavy rain and strong winds caused power cuts and flooding in parts of the Far North, with some schools closing. One weather station in Gisborne had 24mm of rain from 10-11pm and another had 21mm. Rain was expected to continue through the morning and into the afternoon in Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty and Gisborne, Martens said, "especially Gisborne and specially about the ranges". Wellington is headed for 13C with periods of rain and southerlies, while Christchurch is headed for just 8C with southwesterlies, as drizzle turns to rain morning during the morning then eases in the evening.
