Several houses and businesses have flooded and two major state highways are closed after heavy rain caused slips, submerged roads and destroyed a bridge. A warning was in place for State Highway 94 from Te Anau to Milford Sound due to heavy rain and surface water. Most of the heavy rain should ease by midday, but before then the rain over the Buller area was expected to be of similar intensity to the rain that had fallen further south.
