Heavy rain hits Christchurch and West Coast

Heavy rain has hit Christchurch and the West Coast - and it will continue to rain in the Garden City on Saturday, when the third cricket test between Bangladesh and New Zealand is due to start. A very slow moving front across the top of the South Island was bringing heavy rain to part of the West Coast on Friday morning, and gave Christchurch a wet start to the day. You can see it on the satellite imagery - a whole lot of cloud streaming across the West Coast and Canterbury. In the hour to 6am, 12.6mm was recorded at Hokitika "which is a lot at the coast", Little said. On Sunday patchy drizzle is forecast for the east of the North Island, with a chance of isolated showers elsewhere.
