Heavy rain and strong wind warnings have been issued for inland areas of South Canterbury. The front is forecast to bring a period of heavy rain to the west of the South Island including the headwaters of the Otago and Canterbury lakes and rivers. The strong wind warning is for the Canterbury High Country from 1pm-midnight on Thursday with gusts reaching 120-130 kilometres per hour in exposed places.
