Low-lying parts of the town were flooded due to waterlogging caused by heavy downpour on Friday. The incessant rain that has been lashing the region since Thursday night inundated low-lying areas of Thayatheru and Padannappalam, both residential areas within the Kannur Corporation limits. Kannur Town Fire and Rescue Service Station personnel deployed inflated rescue boats to shift residents of Thayatheru to safer places as water continued to rise. Those living in areas near the administrative campus of Kannur University at Thavakkara were affected by floods. Though the drainage was cleared by removing waste, waterlogging remained unabated owing to the heavy downpour, she added.
