PATIENTS recovering from heart surgery, senior citizens, youths who sacrificed their out-of-town or out of the country trips were among the supporters of Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo who helped raise P4 million to pay part of the P7.4 million balance of Robredo’s counter poll protest dues against former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. “Most donations came in denominations of around P100 or less. Robredo’s supporters argued that they were exercising their constitutional rights to suffrage and to protect the outcome of such a right in making these donations. The Supreme Court has yet to resolve this petition. Marcos has claimed fraud after Robredo beat him by 263,473 votes in the May 2016 elections.
