Photo l Jeff Angote l NationThe Ministry of Health is investigating individuals at the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (Kemsa) believed to have released toxic antiretroviral drugs to Kenyans. When asked whether he was aware that toxic drugs for HIV patients were being distributed to counties, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the matter is under investigation. The Health minister said that there is enough ARVs in Kemsa’s warehouse and that distribution and disbursement of the drugs is ongoing. Some users of the drugs have warned that the move by the government is dangerous as some of the drugs are toxic. It is better to wait for the right drugs than taking toxic drugs,” said Mr Nelson Otwoma, national coordinator, National Empowerment Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS.
