The minister said the government would appoint a total of 10,000 physicians for mitigating the crisis of doctors across the country, in response to a supplementary from treasury member Atiur Rahman Atik in the parliament. Replying to another supplementary from opposition bench member Fakhrul Imam, the health minister said his ministry is an important one as around 16 crore people across the country are being provided healthcare services through it. “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has received many awards for Bangladesh’s success in the health sector. The life expectancy of Bangladeshis has increased to 72 and child and maternal mortality rate has declined significantly,” he informed the House.
