Health docket ‘did not spend’ cash meant to uplift facilities

The Nairobi Health department is on the spot for not spending funds set aside for improving facilities in 2015-16, despite their poor state. The department had asked for Sh2.2 billion in the county’s fiscal strategy paper to improve the health facilities. Two weeks ago, the county assembly health committee threatened to sack Finance executive Gregory Mwakanongo and chief officer Luke Gatimu for “starving” the docket of funds. It shows of the Sh1.7 billion allocated for development, only Sh547 million had been used by March 31. The county assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee has released a report on the absorption of funds allocated in last year’s budget.
