Health chief urges flu jabs to avoid "twindemic”

Secretary for Food and Health Sophia Chan Siu-chee today received her flu vaccination at Kwai Tsing District Health Centre along with other government officials from health departments. Secretary for Food and Health Sophia Chan Siu-chee urges citizens to receive their seasonal influenza vaccination to avoid the “twindemic”, the overlap of the winter flu season and an expected surge in Covid-19 cases this winter. Chan said authorities have noticed vaccine shortages in some clinics in the city, therefore the government has already provided an additional 100,000 doses of seasonal influenza vaccines to meet the public demand. The doses will be allocated to doctors who have enrolled in the school outreach vaccination program and those who enrolled in the vaccination subsidy scheme. The high-risk groups under the Vaccination Subsidy Scheme are Hong Kong residents aged 50 or above, children aged six months to under 12 years, pregnant women and people with intellectual disabilities.
