This does not have to mean the end of any possibility for health care reform. In 2009, there were at least three different Democratic health care reform bills in the House that got to the committee mark-up stage. There were three different Democratic health care bills in the Senate that were actually passed by three different committees. At that point, rancor between House and Senate Democrats broke out, with several House Democrats calling the Senate bill “dead on arrival” in the House. At that point, the prospects of passing another Democratic health care bill through the Senate evaporated.
