Garry Phillips, 47, was found hanged by his wife at home shortly after losing his job at City College Plymouth following a vote of no confidence. His total salary of £260,000 also came in for criticism as it made him the fifth highest paid principal in the country. Born in Carlisle, he then came under fire at his former job in London, partly because of his £260,000 salary he earned there. A statement read: "At today's inquest into the death of former City College Plymouth Principal, Garry Phillips, we were saddened to hear the outcome of the Coroner's investigations.
