He’s a medical doctor, and now Canadian Laurent Duvernay-Tardif is playing in the Super Bowl. ‘What else could you ask for?’

Duvernay-Tardif was a teenager then, a native of the Montreal suburb of Mont-Saint-Hilaire playing at the much smaller Collège André Grasset. But play he did — even as he continued his studies — and on Sunday in Miami, the 28-year-old Duvernay-Tardif will become the first medical doctor ever to play in the Super Bowl. Football is a passion, the Canadian told reporters on Super Bowl media day this past week. Duvernay-Tardif is expected to become the 16th Canadian-born player to appear in a Super Bowl and the fifth to crack the starting lineup.
