Hawks and doves: The great divide over the war in Tigray


On 3 November, a full-scale war broke out in Ethiopia between the federal government led by Abiy Ahmed and the TPLF-run Tigray regional government. Addis Ababa declared victory three weeks into the conflict, but the Tigray People’s Liberation Front insists the fighting is ongoing. The hawks, therefore, cheered for the war as a way of securing drone-justice against TPLF. The IrredentistsThis camp consists of Amhara nationalists who wanted the war for restoration of territory in northern Ethiopia. The PacifistsIn this last camp belong the classic doves who believe war is unjustifiable to resolve political differences.
