Controversy was caused after the lines shown during a Video Assisted Referee decision were not straight. Ashley Young played the ball through to Juan Mata, whose goal was ruled offside with the use of the technology. "To confirm, the VAR saw the correct image with the correct lines to make the decision. United manager Jose Mourinho offered his support for VAR following the match, while his Huddersfield counterpart David Wagner spoke of his belief that it "kills the emotion of the game".
