Has The International Community Really Done All It Can For Bangladesh And The Rohingya?


While international attention is focused on conditions in Bangladesh, conditions in Myanmar continue to force people to flee and undermine hopes of safe and voluntary return of the Rohingya to their own country. The Rohingya crisis is on an enormous scale. Bangladesh has shown generosity in opening its borders to the Rohingya and its response to the crisis should be commended. Working with the Government of Bangladesh and Myanmar the international community must now implement its strategy to meet the needs of Rohingya refugees, and address the conditions that created this crisis. We have seen in the past Rohingya who had once fled Myanmar into Bangladesh return, only to be displaced a few short years later.
