Harvard Rescinds Admissions To 10 Students For Offensive Facebook Memes

At least 10 students accepted to Harvard have had their offers rescinded after administrators discovered offensive posts in a private, online Facebook messaging group, the Harvard Crimson reported Sunday. Facebook groups centered around posting memes have become popular at elite institutions, though not necessarily dedicated to posts so universally offensive. Harvard also has the Facebook group "Harvard Memes for Elitist 1% Tweens," which was not the message chat that resulted in the retraction of admissions offers. Prospective students interested in memes first found each other on Harvard's Class of 2021 Admitted Students group, the Crimson reported. Last year, accepted Harvard students joined an unofficial closed GroupMe chat where students sent racist material and derided feminists.
