The Harry’s deal is for $1.37 billion, and the buyer is Edgewell (get it?) Personal Care, the company that owns Schick, Wilkinson and several other personal care brands and that at one time was part of Energizer. Founded nine years ago, Harry’s was in the first-generation wave of direct sellers that came onto the retail consumer products field with a different business model. Sites like Gilt.com, HauteLook and One Kings Lane were all e-commerce players that came on with a different business model, threatening the online businesses of conventional retailers. It's why brands like Harry’s and Bonobos are selling their products through the very conventional retailers they once scorned and made fun of.
