Harrowing quarantine experience as viral pandemic roots dig deeper

By KANYIRI WAHITO More by this AuthorDr Solomon Mwangi left a virus-free Kenya on March 2, but returned on March 25 to a quarantine welcome. The 57–year-old construction consultant had travelled to Lilongwe, Malawi, where he had been on a contract assignment with Lafarge, a cement manufacturing company. Dr Mwangi settled for Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Mbagathi, Nairobi, where he was admitted alongside 120 other people. On the 13th day, the quarantine camp overseer informed them that they would be guests at the facility for another 14 days, yet they had only two days left to be released. Dr Mwangi says the quarantine experience made him treasure his freedom, something he had always taken for granted.
