Mr. Flanagan is one of the founding fathers of the New York hard-core punk scene, although he was still a child at the time. According to Mr. Flanagan, he came in peace, seeking reconciliation with Mr. McGowan, when a melee broke out. Severely beaten, Mr. Flanagan spent a week at the Rikers Island jail complex until his uncle bailed him out for $25,000. The chemistry between Mr. McGowan and Mr. Flanagan was undeniable. Mr. Flanagan and Mr. McGowan buried the hatchet long enough for a short-lived reunion in 2001, but the détente did not last long.
