Harambee Stars overcome Congo in Afcon qualifier match

Harambee Stars beat Republic of Congo 2-1 on Sunday at Kasarani Stadium in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Group E match to register their first win in the competition. Congo remained in second place on six points while Guinea Bissau gained an unassailable 10 points at the top of the table after beating Zambia 3-2 in Guinea on Saturday. Ayub Timbe scored in the 23rd minute to cancel out Prince Oniangue’s penalty before Eric Johanna secured the win for the home team with a delicate effort on 67 minutes. Timbe broke free twice more but opted to fire at goal when perhaps squaring the ball would have been a better options. Kenya responded almost immediately through Belgium-based winger Ayub Timbe, who raced after a ball delivered from deep to whip it screaming past Congolese goalkeeper Christopher Mafoumbi.
