They have no regrets because the gold was 6% cheaper now due to zero-rated GST, thus saving them several hundred ringgit. Yesterday, they and many other gold buyers were spotted at Gayathirii Tangga Maligai Jewellers in Market Street, Penang. But the buying spree was most evident in supermarkets and Penang’s oldest one was swarming with shoppers. GAMA senior marketing manager Leong Hau Soon said it was a coincidence that their members’ day sale fell on the first day of zero-rated GST.
