Halloween is believed to have started as a pagan religious festival, originating from an ancient Celtic tradition in Ireland about 2,000 years ago. (Image: Getty)The festival traditionally took place from 31 October to 1 November, and was mainly celebrated by the Irish Celts. Others believed that the spirits of the dead roamed the land seeking family and old friends among the living. Once the Irish - American immigration took off in the 1800s, All-Hallows Eve became known as Halloween. By the twentieth century, the origins of Samhain, turned Halloween, had lost nearly all of its superstitious and religious overtones.
