A CNN news crew recently did a spot on rampant shoplifting in San Francisco Walgreens stores, highlighting how the retailer had padlocked freezers full of pizzas and TV dinners at its 5280 Geary Blvd. Police data shows that the Walgreens at 2690 Mission St. has the most reported thefts in San Francisco. The Standard spotted no shoplifters at the 3398 Mission St. Walgreens during a 45-minute visit. San Francisco District Attorney’s Office spokesman Randy Quezada said there had been at least eight criminal cases related to Walgreens stores in San Francisco between January and May of this year—none are for shoplifting, but three relate to burglaries. Five Walgreens stores closed in San Francisco in 2021, and two Downtown San Francisco Walgreens stores shuttered in February 2022.
