Hallmark Reverses Decision To Ban Zola Ad With Same-Sex Couple, CEO Apologizes

ZolaTopline: After backlash from LGBTQ groups and calls to boycott the network, the CEO of Hallmark Cards apologized Sunday night for removing an ad because it featured two brides kissing, saying the network would reinstate the commercials from wedding-planning startup Zola. In a statement, Hallmark channel owner Mike Perry said the company has been “agonizing” over the decision to pull the ad “as we’ve seen the hurt it has unintentionally caused” and apologized. Zola had said it would stop advertising on the Hallmark channel altogether. Earlier this year, Bill Abbott, CEO of Crown Media Family Networks, Hallmark’s parent company, said the network is “open” to airing a movie with a same-sex couple.
