Around half a million sharks may be slaughtered in an effort to make a Covid-19 vaccine, wildlife experts have claimed. It is used in some of the candidates for a Covid-19 vaccine. The group has set up an online petition named 'Stop Using Sharks in COVID-19 Vaccine - Use EXISTING Sustainable Options'. The group say squalene made from shark liver oil is used most commonly because it is 'cheap to obtain' and 'easy to come by'. Conservationist have called upon companies to use synthetic alternatives in the Covid-19 vaccine.
