April 2020: Facebook hackers leaked phone numbers and personal data from 553 million users online. Some of these 'partners' had the ability to read, write, and delete Facebook users' private messages and to see all participants on a thread. It also allowed Microsoft's search engine, known as Bing, to see the name of all Facebook users' friends without their consent. The hackers also tried to harvest people's private information, including name, sex and hometown, from Facebook's systems. March 2018: Facebook made headlines after the data of 87 million users was improperly accessed by Cambridge Analytica, a political consultancy.
