Habib Kemal grew up playing football in the Ethiopian capital City, Addis Ababa in an area commonly known as "Chew Berenda". He would go on to begin his professionalat the former Mebrat Hayil, now known as Ethio Electric. Habib would spend one year in Mebrat Hayil C team before he joined the Reserve team and spent three years there and was subsequently promoted to the main team.
