The world over, people are celebrating women and girls and the important role they play in society. In Mombasa, more than 200 women and women activists led by Haki Africa and other groups from all over the Coast are taking to the streets to demand better balance in Kenyan society. The attainment of the constitutional two-thirds gender rule in all public institutions is one such area that, as a country, we still need to work on. Kenya must rise up from the shackles of gender inequity and produce a new future that honours and respects its women. You are all Kenya’s women of power and we pay tribute to your continued efforts to expand the space for women’s rights in Kenya and beyond.
