HNEC receives LD 50 million for 2021 election preparations: UNSMIL’s WilliamsBy Sami Zaptia. London, 22 December 2020:Acting UNSMIL head Stephanie Williams revealed yesterday that Libya’s High National Election Commission (HNEC) had confirmed that it had received LD 50 million for election preparations from the internationally recognized Libyan government in Tripoli. The revelation came in UNSMIL’s statement yesterday confirming the launch of the LPDF’s Legal Committee which starts the countdown to Libya’s planned 24 December 2021 parliamentary and presidential elections. In response to that call for elections, HNEC head Emad Al-Sayeh complained in media comments on 3 September that his organization was not ready to hold elections due to the lack of funds provided by the Serraj government.
