HK$200 quarantine charge to halt abuse, recover space


Since February 8, anyone who enters Hong Kong from the mainland, or have been to the mainland over the past fortnight have been required to quarantine themselves for 14 days. “It is expected that the temporary accommodation sites will be insufficient to meet the needs of all Hong Kong residents returning from the Mainland”, he said. Since last Saturday, travellers from some regions in Italy, France, Spain and Japan have been ordered to quarantine themselves for 14 days. “Some Hong Kong residents, despite having local residences, still insisted staying in temporary accommodation”, he added. The HK$200 charge will therefore be imposed to “combat abuse of the facilities and reserve places for people with genuine need”, he said.
