A Hong Kong student Chan Yi-chun has been released from jail after serving a 10-month sentence for his role in attacking a police officer with a selfie stick during last year’s social unrest, with his family members and friends welcoming him outside of Pik Uk Prison. During the time when the group is waiting for Chan, police officers warned them to practice social distancing, saying they would be fined if they violated the Covid rules. Chan, who did not take part in the procession, hit a police officer five times with a 46cm selfie stick after the officer tried to stop a trapped protester from escaping. He pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place. Chan was further convicted of resisting an officer after a trial.
