HK, Singapore get 'Average' grade on mutual fund investor experience

Hong Kong and Singapore scored the Average grade in terms of investor experience, Morningstar said in a report. The report grades the experiences of mutual fund investors in 26 markets across North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Most markets in Asia, including Hong Kong, India, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand, scored the Average grade. "The majority of Asian markets benefit from low or nil taxes on investments and of the 26 markets, Hong Kong and Singapore are the only markets that do not tax fund investors at all. There were also positive developments on the regulations of fund distribution, such as the disclosure of trailer fees and restricted use of “independence” by advisers in Hong Kong.
