Justices of the Supreme Court are set to tackle the two petitions opposing the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN Corp. on Tuesday, March 10. Sources of The Manila Times in the high court said the ponente of the case, Associate Justice Amy Lazaro Javier, had made her recommendations. However, the high court needs to make haste because a quo warranto case has to be resolved within 60 days from the date it was filed. In the quo warranto petition, Solicitor General Jose Calida assailed the legality of ownership and transfer of shares of ABS-CBN Corp. and ABS-CBN Convergence. She said ABS-CBN Corp. violated the “one franchise, one channel” by asserting “franchises” and “channels” in their renewal application.
