It also kept pending the hearing on three other writ petitions over the Chawkbazar fire that killed 69 people. Mentioning that the amount is too inadequate, the court said they would order that each victim be given Tk5 lakh. On Monday, observing that the Chawkbazar inferno was not an accident, the High Court had said that someone must take the responsibility for it. Four writ petitions have been filed with the High Court seeking its directives to provide compensation for the victims, relocate chemical warehouses from Old Dhaka and dismantle unapproved buildings from the area. On June 3, 2010, 124 people were killed in a devastating fire that originated in the Nimtoli area from an electrical transformer explosion.
