HC seeks details of hotels that complied with orders on parking space

more-inThe Madras High Court has directed the Greater Chennai Corporation to submit details of commercial establishments that had complied with interim orders passed by the court from time to time since 2014 with respect to providing adequate vehicle parking space or at least valet parking facilities in order to avoid traffic congestion. The judges ordered that the details sought for by them be submitted by June 22. In the meantime, acceding to a request made by advocate S. Vijayan, representing the Chennai Hotels Association, the Bench directed the Corporation to extend till March 31, 2019 the licences granted to hotels, restaurants and such other commercial establishments. It was the first Division Bench led by former Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul which had taken serious note of hotels and restaurants functioning without adequate vehicle parking facilities in the city. The Bench had warned that it would order mass closure of restaurants if they do not come up with alternative facilities such as valet parking.
