The High Court has ordered an investigation into the incident on October 17 where a 26-year-old woman in labour was denied care by three hospitals and eventually had a stillborn baby in a hospital parking lot. The court said the baby’s death was tragic and symptomatic of how badly poor people are treated by the healtcare system in the country. Concerned authorities of the government, police and authorities of DMCH, Salimullah Medical College Hospital and Azimpur Shishu Matri Sadan have been asked to respond to the rule. The directors of Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital, Dhaka Medical College Hospital and superintendent of Azimpur Shishu Matri Sadan will investigate into the matter and submit their reports before the court in 15 days, the High Court rule said. The court will pass the next order on the matter on November 5.
